Enterprise Architect in the Retail Sector

Title: Enterprise Architect - Retail

Location: London / Remote

Duration: 12-month fixed term contract

Industry: Omnichannel Retail FMCG

Salary: £85,000 - £105,000 plus generous bonus

Role Overview

The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as the leading Enterprise Architect across the organization's application technology landscape. This encompasses all customer interaction points, as well as our commercial fulfillment and service technology frameworks. The focus will be on developing and maintaining the architectural roadmap for these domains, identifying opportunities for transformation, consolidation, and optimization to enhance customer, employee, and business outcomes.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in enterprise application architecture within a highly intricate retail environment. Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influencing abilities are essential, as collaboration across various teams (both business and technical) and all organizational levels (including C-suite) will be required.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Expertise in the field, providing direction on strategic decisions while remaining aware of current and emerging technologies.
  • Experience navigating complex technology transformations within a significant retail organization (or similar).
  • Proven track record in developing a credible and practical target architecture that aligns with both Business and IT strategies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex concepts in a clear, concise, and commercially relevant manner to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong influencing capabilities, able to advise and recommend with credibility at all levels while managing intricate stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated critical analysis and problem-solving skills, collaborating with other technology subject matter experts and the business to formulate innovative technology strategies for rapidly evolving and ambiguous challenges.
  • Extensive experience in Web UX Architecture, including familiarity with platforms such as Adobe and Salesforce.
  • Preferred experience with SAP Technology and Ecosystem.
  • Broad understanding of Microservices and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) in the Digital Age, including relevant standards and topologies.
  • Knowledge of Point of Sale (POS) systems both online and in-store, including PCI compliance.
  • Experience implementing a Cloud First Approach utilizing AWS, Azure, or Google.

Certifications

  • Degree in IT or a related field.
  • Several years of relevant architecture experience.
  • Ideally, 3 or more years of Enterprise Architecture experience within the sector.
  • Certification in a recognized Enterprise Architecture framework (e.g., TOGAF).
