The Health and Justice Services division within the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Lead Psychological Support Specialist to join our interdisciplinary mental health team.

Working in a correctional facility presents unique challenges, and we are looking for an individual with robust clinical and interpersonal abilities who can effectively navigate the evolving demands of the team, the clientele, and the environment, ensuring that services are both accessible and suitable.

Key Responsibilities

This full-time position at Band 5 will involve supporting the psychological services that utilize a stepped care approach to service delivery.

The successful candidate will play a vital role within the multidisciplinary team, assisting in the assessment, formulation, and communication of results from psychological evaluations. Strong communication skills and the capacity to work independently and proactively are essential. The Lead Psychological Support Specialist will also deliver direct psychological interventions and facilitate group work within the Stepped 2 care framework.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential

  • A minimum of a 2:1 degree in psychology.
  • Eligibility for British Psychological Society graduate membership (must be clearly stated in the application).

Desirable

  • Additional training in clinical delivery methods, including risk assessment and therapeutic interventions.

Experience

Essential

  • At least two years of post-degree experience.
  • Prior experience in an Assistant Psychology role or a similar position.
  • Proven track record in conducting assessments and interventions.
  • Experience in delivering group work.
  • Contribution to multidisciplinary team efforts.

Desirable

  • Experience in administering and contributing to psychological and neurological assessments, such as WAIS or ABAS.
  • Background in working within a custodial, secure, or inpatient setting.

Additional Requirements
