About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Investment and Accounting Specialist to join our Pensions team in Preston on a 12-18 month contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Trustee Board and Pensions Executive with investment and accounting-related projects to improve complex processes involved in running a pension arrangement.
  • Review and implement an appropriate investment governance structure.
  • Review the current position regarding tax reclaims and complete actions to ensure all tax claims available have been/will be received.
  • Review the current accounting processes with the internal Finance team.
  • Identify and implement improvements to ensure the monthly management accounts and the annual statutory accounts process and the audit process is as efficient and accurate as possible.
  • Support the Trustee Board and Pensions team with the auditor selection exercise.
  • Support the Trustee Board and Pensions team with the development of the 2025 Scheme budget using the zero-based budgeting model.
  • Review and improve the current approvals process, budget monitoring and reporting process with the internal Finance team.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in investment governance, accounting, or financial analysis, preferably within the pensions sector.
  • Understanding of pension fund regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proven track record of preparing financial reports.
  • Strong understanding of asset allocation and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and standards, particularly as they relate to pension funds.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and financial audits.
  • Awareness of relevant tax laws and their impact on pension investments.
  • Ability to assess pension risks.
  • Expertise in developing budgets for pension funds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting to stakeholders.
  • Ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to manage a number of complex projects that will be running concurrently.
