About the Role

SSE, a leading energy company, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cable Engineer to join our team in the SSE Renewables business. As a Cable Engineer, you will play a critical role in leading and coordinating electrical engineering deliverables for the development and construction of offshore wind generation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Electrical Engineering Design: Develop and lead front-end electrical engineering design works associated with HV and EHV land and subsea cable networks for project consenting and financial modeling activities.
  2. Cable Package Contract Documentation: Develop electrical package contract documentation, including cable specifications, and write, review, and update technical specifications for electrical cable work packages on offshore wind generation projects.
  3. Project Coordination: Coordinate and manage project electrical cable engineering works, ensuring correct technical specifications are prepared and applied to offshore wind generation projects.
  4. Contractor and Consultant Management: Review external contractor's and consultant's specifications and documentation for the procurement of long lead equipment, ensuring SSE Renewables' requirements are achieved.
  5. Technical Solution Development: Interpret project objectives and requirements to develop the most appropriate techno-commercial design solution and technology choice.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  1. Experience in HV and EHV Cable Engineering: Proven technical experience associated with design, installation, commissioning, and fault analysis of land and subsea cable networks up to and including 400kV, preferably in offshore wind farm projects.
  2. Chartered Engineer Status: Chartered Engineer and a member of the Engineering Council or working towards this goal, possessing strong technical knowledge and experience of renewable electricity generation, including technical knowledge of offshore wind generation cable systems and their operation.
  3. Engineering Legislation and Industry Good Practice: Sound working knowledge of appropriate engineering legislation and industry good practice, along with an understanding of effective organization capabilities needed to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales.
  4. Commercial Awareness: Excellent commercial awareness to understand implications of engineering activities and decisions.
  5. Organizational and Communication Skills: Excellent organizational skills and ability to deliver the highest quality of work within the necessary timescales, along with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to communicate at various managerial levels within the business.
