About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operational Risk Officer to join our team at Newbury Building Society. As a key support to the Chief Risk Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the Society operates an effective approach to risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Second Line of Defence: Ensure a strong second line of defence is in place to mitigate operational risks.
  2. Risk Management Framework: Evolve, maintain, and operate a robust Risk Management Framework (RMF) and associated processes.
  3. Operational Resilience: Ensure oversight of Operational Resilience is undertaken, supporting the business to effectively manage operational risks, including risks relating to third parties, data loss, cyber security, and recovery and resolution planning.
  4. Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with the Risk Officer (Financial Risk) and Compliance team to provide a responsive and proportionate approach to managing risk, identifying opportunities for improvements and greater efficiencies while remaining within risk appetite.
Requirements
  1. Operational Risk Experience: Operational Risk management experience within financial services, ideally in a second line risk function, but strong first line risk experience can be considered.
  2. Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of the key legal and regulatory framework relating to risk in the financial services sector.
  3. Operational Risk Frameworks: Knowledge of Operational Risk and Resilience Frameworks, Recovery and Resolution planning, involvement in Third Party Risk Management oversight.
  4. Risk Management Qualification: Risk Management qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
