Nursing Program Specialist at Commonwealth of Virginia
This role entails providing non-supervisory guidance and serving as a nursing program authority across various nursing services and programs throughout the district. Responsibilities include the formulation of program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, as well as reporting program performance to funding entities and agency personnel. The position acts as the primary liaison for staff and external inquiries regarding the program/service, oversees service delivery to ensure adherence to relevant policies and procedures, and advocates for the program to enhance utilization and public awareness.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct nursing assessments and, when necessary, perform laboratory tests and measurements.
- Develop and implement comprehensive care plans, which include medication administration and case management.
- May oversee support personnel.
Actions taken in this role necessitate licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with state regulations.
Essential Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in Virginia.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR; ability to conduct fit testing for staff in compliance with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standards.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity, with the ability to operate independently in diverse settings such as home, clinic, community, and school environments.
- Proficient in exercising sound nursing judgment and possessing effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience in data entry, analysis, and report generation in a fast-paced, data-centric environment.
- Knowledge of nursing processes, health maintenance, disease management, physical and behavioral sciences, and basic epidemiology principles.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Familiarity with computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Mail.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to travel and work occasional weekends or evenings as required.
- Strong decision-making, teaching, and counseling skills, along with problem-solving abilities.
- For those involved with the epidemiological response team, certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred, along with experience in infection control within hospital or long-term care settings.
Additional Considerations
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in data interpretation.
- Experience in public health is advantageous.
