An exciting opportunity has emerged at the National Housing Federation (NHF) for a Senior Financial Policy Consultant to spearhead our policy and strategic initiatives concerning housing finance.


The NHF serves as the representative body for housing associations across England, advocating for nearly 600 organizations that have evolved from charitable origins to fulfill essential housing needs.


This role is pivotal within our policy team and the broader organization. You will leverage your expertise in policy and strategy to shape national housing policy on behalf of our member organizations.


Utilizing your existing knowledge in finance and/or housing, you will rapidly acquire a comprehensive understanding of housing associations and their financial frameworks, fostering strong relationships with Finance Directors within our membership.


Your specialized knowledge will be instrumental in influencing the policy landscape, enabling housing associations to effectively achieve their social objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and shape our policy initiatives on critical strategic matters related to housing finance, advocating for solutions and addressing risks that impact the mission of housing associations.
  • Transform evidence and insights on technical policy issues into impactful policy solutions that resonate with the sector and influence governmental decisions.
  • Engage with and advise members on significant policy changes and external developments.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven ability to develop credible, robust, evidence-based policy, particularly in complex and technical areas.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capacity to engage effectively with Chief Executives, senior government officials, and finance professionals.
  • Experience in drafting, overseeing, and executing comprehensive plans for multiple projects or programs.
  • A genuine interest in and commitment to social housing and the financial aspects of housing associations, supported by prior experience in finance or housing roles, along with the ability to quickly grasp the technicalities of housing association finances and operational models.
