Building Surveyor

With operational bases in Exeter and Ivybridge, South West Norse is committed to providing expert services across various property management sectors, including building surveying, architectural design, mechanical and electrical engineering, project management, and estate management.

To enhance our project portfolio, we are currently seeking to add a Building Surveyor to our team.

Key Responsibilities:

Given the varied nature of our operations, you will engage in a wide range of projects, performing numerous tasks such as:

  • Managing intricate refurbishment and maintenance projects valued up to £1 million, collaborating with major public sector clients who consistently return for our services.
  • Creating your own design and technical drawings, preparing tender documentation, executing contract administration duties, and overseeing site monitoring tasks to ensure compliance and uphold quality standards.
  • Leading quality assurance efforts across projects and services, ensuring that client requirements are fulfilled and that all relevant legislation is adhered to.
  • Conducting site surveys related to condition/building surveying, schedules of condition, dilapidations, measured surveys, and planned maintenance; performing defect analysis, which includes analytical investigations, research, and the preparation of technical reports.
  • Compiling and presenting findings to both internal and external stakeholders, providing solutions and recommendations as necessary.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

While we prefer candidates with a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in building surveying, we are also open to considering junior or graduate surveyors who demonstrate potential. You will show your fit for this role through:

  • Ideally holding (or working towards) a Professional Chartered Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS); however, we are willing to support candidates through this process.
  • Experience in the design, contract administration, and project management of construction projects of varying sizes and complexities.
  • Familiarity with Building Regulations, Health & Safety standards, and other pertinent construction and building surveying legislation.
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities, with the ability to engage and negotiate effectively with all levels of internal and external parties.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision or as part of a large, multidisciplinary team.
  • A solid design background and proficiency in AutoCAD.
