Job Description

Are you a seasoned Project Engineer seeking a challenging opportunity in the Portsmouth area?

CMS2 - Critical Maritime Systems & Support is a leading provider of atmospheric control systems for the defence industry. We specialize in designing and manufacturing high-availability atmosphere management systems for submarines, enabling them to stay underwater for extended periods.

As a Project Engineer at CMS2, you will be the focal point for all engineering activities related to In-Service Support Projects/Spares. You will work closely with the ISS Delivery Manager, ISS Technical Manager, and ISS Project Managers to ensure the product meets the specified product/project requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Manage design improvement/obsolescence activities for assigned projects, providing technical guidance to engineering resources in line with the Product Specification.
  • Define the content of standard project documentation (technical, operational, maintenance manual, etc.).
  • Report on the technical content of the project to the ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers.
  • Identify technical risks to the ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers and develop strategies for risk management.
  • Provide technical support for the ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers in customer communications during project delivery.
  • Track project activities against plans and budgets, regularly reporting to the ISS Delivery Manager, ISS Technical Manager, and ISS Project Managers on progress.
  • Raise purchase requisitions for project materials.
  • Provide technical support for procurement, production, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Liaise with the Production team, lead issue resolution, and report progress to the ISS Technical Manager and ISS Project Managers during build/manufacturing phases.
  • Support the SQE and Quality team as required to resolve quality issues, including raising formal requests, fault finding, and test support.
  • Support engineering design as required by the project.
  • Lead testing and commissioning of equipment, working with Test Technicians and Commissioning Engineers as required by the project.
  • Ensure project activities are delivered as defined by the project manager, including design reviews, FMEAs, and test plans.
  • Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up-to-date.
  • Perform any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Essential

  • HND or Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering or a related subject.
  • Experience working in a Mechanical/Systems engineering environment.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivation, and ability to work well under own initiative.
  • Able to build long-term successful client partnerships, both internally and externally.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Decision-making/problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, confident speaker, and professionally presented.

Desirable

  • Experience working on multiple projects.
  • Practical competence in mechanical/systems assembly.
  • Knowledge of BS.8888 drawing practices.
  • Experience working within a Defence environment.
  • Previous experience with an ERP system.
  • Knowledge of ISO9000 or a similar QA system.
Role Travel Requirements
  • The duties of this appointment relate to the UK, but you may be required to travel when required by the Company.
