Role Overview
As an In-House Lawyer, you will be an integral part of the Engagement Terms Team (ETT), a global unit that delivers top-tier legal support to the firm's partners and fee earners. Your focus will be on strategic legal guidance regarding client engagement contracts and associated risk matters.
Engagement Terms are essential contracts that govern the relationships with clients and are critical for effective risk management, covering various regulatory and commercial risk areas.
Key Responsibilities
The firm’s diverse clientele is increasingly sophisticated in their engagement with external legal counsel, leading to the establishment of a specialized team of contract law experts working across jurisdictions.
This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in a cross-departmental capacity, collaborating closely with the Data Privacy team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Leading the identification and advisory on key contractual terms within complex client engagement agreements, particularly focusing on data privacy, information security, and artificial intelligence.
- Providing practical and directive support on compliance with relevant contractual obligations in the context of the firm’s global operations, including incident response strategies.
- Maintaining comprehensive records of key contractual terms, utilizing technology solutions for analysis, advice, and reporting on their implications for the business.
- Supporting the ETT and Data Privacy teams in their initiatives.
- Building and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and contributors.
- Coordinating internal review teams, including the creation of briefing documents and playbooks for review processes.
- Developing and implementing training and communication strategies.
- Creating and delivering presentations and reports, as well as assisting in the development of relevant policies and documentation.
- Acting as a point of escalation within the ETT regarding key contractual terms.
Qualifications Required
To be considered for the In-House Lawyer position, candidates should possess:
- Qualification as a Lawyer (considering NI, ROI & England & Wales), with strong skills in contract negotiation and review.
- The ability to provide practical, directive, and business-focused advice on compliance with contractual obligations.
- A proven track record in systemizing processes, ideally within a risk management context.
- Experience in advising a diverse range of business stakeholders on requirements and priorities, as well as resolving issues.
- Excellent IT proficiency, including the Microsoft Office suite and other relevant technologies.
- A passion for technology and the ability to articulate and advise on technical processes in accessible language.
- Strong organizational skills and the capability to plan effectively.
- Commercial acumen with the ability to influence strategic decisions through innovative and pragmatic problem-solving.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently, proactively managing and prioritizing a busy workload.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels and foster strong relationships.
