Senior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist Opportunity

About the Role

The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment to children and adolescents, as well as their parents and carers. They will also be responsible for facilitating multi-professional service development and change management, as well as teaching, training, and clinical supervision in a multidisciplinary team context.

Main Duties
  1. Provide specialist psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment to children and adolescents, as well as their parents and carers.
  2. Lead a team of senior clinicians and contribute to the overall management of the service.

UCLH: The department of Child and Adolescent Psychological Medicine within the Division of Paediatrics and Adolescent medicine deliver a broad range of child and adolescent mental health provision across the whole of UCLH. With our colleagues from psychiatry, psychology, social work, paediatrics and nursing the child psychotherapy team have roles within Paediatric liaison services, the feeding clinic, Turner clinic, inpatient assessment, and general paediatric outpatient clinics. There is also a busy multi-disciplinary Psych-oncology team based at the Macmillan Cancer Centre. Child psychotherapists additionally provide input in a broad range of adolescent services including the TRACCS service a national service for children and young people with complex medical needs, including chronic fatigue and other medically unexplained symptoms. Our outpatient clinics are commissioned by NHS Camden and provide mental health assessment and treatment for local children and young people with complex health issues. With both a local and national remit our patients come from a broad demographic. Child Psychotherapy has a central role in the supervision and support of colleagues in many specialist fields including play specialists, clinical nurse specialists (CNS), junior Drs, and colleagues working in emergency medicine. Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a Doctorate level training and Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ACP accredited only), as well as training in supervision of Child Psychotherapists. They will also have extensive knowledge of relevant legislation regarding children and young people, as well as a high level of knowledge, expertise, competence, and skill in current models and methods of practice of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, including short-term models of intervention.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience of working as a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist in a senior role, with the capacity to demonstrate an understanding of the tasks and competencies involved in leading a team of senior clinicians. They will also have experience of working with a wide variety of child and adolescents and their parents/carers across the whole age range and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity and complexity.

The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and patients, and will have strong IT skills, including word processing, use of email, internet, and database management. They will also have management skills, including the ability to ensure the safe running of a team, including job planning, appraisal support, and regular supervision.
