Job Title: Senior Scientific Programmes Officer, Fellowship

The Royal Society is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Scientific Programmes Officer to join its team. As a key member of the Scientific Programmes team, you will be responsible for planning and delivering high-profile events, including the annual Fellowship induction events, milestone events, and VIP events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of an annual portfolio of Fellowship and milestone events, ensuring successful execution and high standards.
  • Contribute to setting plans, event objectives, and timescales, and proactively flag any required changes or updates to the Head of Scientific Programmes.
  • Ensure event plans include flexibility to accommodate virtual or hybrid alternatives.
  • Resolve logistical and resource issues, escalating as necessary.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues to ensure logistical arrangements support event goals.
  • Lead onsite delivery of events, ensuring adequate resource.
  • Draft written materials, such as concept notes, briefing documents, and reports.
  • Monitor reputational risks, raising concerns with the Head of Scientific Programmes and colleagues as needed.
  • Create and manage registration processes, ensuring effective administration.
  • Effectively manage event budgets, ensuring execution within agreed parameters.
  • Ensure contributors and participants are acknowledged and thanked as needed.
  • Conduct post-event debriefs, documenting lessons learned.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience of managing complex, high-profile events.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomatic, and with a high degree of cultural awareness.
  • Experience of managing people.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a varied workload.
  • Understanding of the scientific and academic community.
Working Arrangements:

This is a fixed-term position for approximately 9 months, covering maternity leave. The successful candidate will be based at Carlton House Terrace, London, and will work 35 hours per week, including some evening and weekend working.
