Material Handling Specialist

I. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibility of this role is to execute a range of material handling tasks related to the receipt, storage, distribution, and dispatch of materials in an efficient and timely manner. This encompasses both raw materials and finished products. A significant aspect of this position is to ensure that all warehouse machinery is operational, properly maintained, and utilized safely. Effective communication and feedback with all personnel involved in material handling is essential to promptly and accurately address any issues.
II. SUPERVISORY ROLE
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
III. EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
Ability to lift thirty-five (35) pounds to a height of six feet or more.
Familiarity with distribution protocols is necessary.
Valid licenses and qualifications to operate various types of mobile equipment (forklift, CDL trucks, man lifts, etc.) are required. A general understanding of the production process is also expected.
Proficient use of computer applications, including Excel, Word, and Oracle is essential.
A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
Strong organizational skills are important.
Understanding customer satisfaction and the ability to meet those needs is crucial.
Comprehensive knowledge of safety, environmental, and health policies is necessary.
Effective communication skills are required.
Good judgment in evaluating situations is essential.
Excellent follow-through skills are expected.
WORK SCHEDULE: 12-hour shifts either from 6:45 AM to 7 PM or from 6:45 PM to 7 AM.
WORK SHIFT: 12-hour shifts, with occasional voluntary or mandatory overtime.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or equivalent, forklift experience, and a valid license are required, along with basic computer and math skills.
PPE: ANSI Z41 approved safety footwear, hearing and eye protection as necessary for the work environment, gloves as required for specific tasks, and other PPE as designated.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Forklift, mobile equipment, various hand, power, and pneumatic tools, computer, railcar hose, writing instruments, tape dispenser, stretch wrap, box cutters, and general office supplies.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The role is situated in a warehouse production facility or a climate-controlled office environment, with potential exposure to external conditions. Employees may work around moving machinery and mobile equipment, with possible exposure to noise levels that necessitate hearing protection in production areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Wear required safety equipment.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Work flexible shifts and overtime as needed.
- Adhere to company performance standards and policies.
- Follow behavioral expectations and company guidelines.
- Ensure all warehouse equipment is operational, well-maintained, and used safely.
- Coordinate activities with other warehouse personnel and provide training on safe equipment usage.
- Complete administrative tasks related to receiving and shipping operations.
- Comply with import/export policies and procedures.
- Monitor inventory management practices, ensuring adherence to FIFO principles.
- Address any issues with raw materials promptly.
- Conduct inventory cycle counts of raw materials.
- Unload raw materials and organize them in the warehouse.
- Notify quality control of incoming raw materials.
- Ensure proper weighing and tagging of returned raw materials.
- Monitor warehouse conditions for safe storage practices.
- Maintain accurate records of all materials stored.
- Prepare shipments of raw materials as needed.
- Verify weights of materials for shipping.
- Provide information on raw materials required for production.
- Adhere to safety policies and maintain a clean work environment.
- Participate in training programs related to job functions.
PHYSICAL DEMAND CATEGORY: MEDIUM - HEAVY, as defined by the Dictionary of Occupational Titles 1991 Revised Edition.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position reports directly to the Warehouse Supervisor and is a vital member of the Production Planning and Control Department. The role does not have any direct reports.
