About the Role
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled and experienced Theatre Practitioner to join our team as a Scrub Practitioner. As a key member of the surgical team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support during operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a skilled Scrub Practitioner to the Surgical team during operating procedures.
- Carry out relevant safety checks on all necessary equipment for use during the operative procedure.
- Assist with the preparation of intra-operative medication, drugs, fluids, and lotions.
- Ensure that all counts are carried out correctly and that all registers are kept correctly.
- Ensure that the appropriate instruments and consumables are readily available for the procedure.
- Demonstrate safe handling, removal, and disposal of swabs, needles, instruments, diathermy, and any other equipment necessary.
- On completion of the procedure, ensure appropriate dressings are in place and all relevant drains and catheters are secure and patent.
- Assess and record the patient's skin condition on arrival and departure from the theatre.
- Carry out a full verbal and written hand-over of the patient to the recovery team.
Requirements
- Registered Operating Department Practitioner with valid HCPC registration or Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Must be a qualified practitioner, successfully completing our in-house competency package.
- Experience working within an operating theatre.
- Understanding of clinical governance and effective risk management.
- Knowledge of current NHS issues, including performance targets and the wider modernisation agenda.
