Crediton, Devon, United Kingdom Redlands Primary Care Full time

Position Overview

This is an exceptional opportunity to become a pivotal part of our innovative training and educational GP practice. We are dedicated to providing outstanding patient care, with a strong emphasis on fostering a positive work atmosphere. We are committed to supporting your professional growth, ensuring a healthy work-life balance, and offering various development opportunities.

We are seeking a General Practitioner to oversee our comprehensive Year 3, 4, and 5 Medical Student educational program.

This role will not involve list-holding responsibilities and will focus primarily on instructing medical students through our cooperative patient cohort.

Key Responsibilities

  • 12 months of maternity leave coverage.
  • Utilization of SystmOne clinical software.

As the Lead GP for the Medical Student Program at Redlands Primary Care, you will enjoy:

  • Flexibility to design your own teaching clinics.
  • Administrative assistance.
  • Daily 30-minute coffee and clinical discussions.
  • Access to an Urgent Care Team comprising 3 Paramedics.
  • A Clinical Pharmacy team to handle medication adjustments, inquiries, and reviews.
  • Trained Care Navigators to assist in selecting suitable patients.
  • 6 weeks of annual leave (plus pro-rata bank holidays and 2 NHS days).
  • Bi-weekly clinical meetings.
  • Provision of a laptop.
  • Modern, state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Ample free on-site parking with electric car charging options.
  • Convenient access from nearby transport links.
  • Coverage for MDU fees.

About Our Practice

We serve a growing patient base of 16,500. Our main facility is a newly constructed, purpose-built surgery located conveniently. We also offer services from our dispensing branch.

We are recognized for our forward-thinking and innovative approach to delivering high-quality patient care. Our multidisciplinary team includes 3 Urgent Care Paramedics, a Clinical Pharmacist-led prescribing team, and a remote GP team that assists with administrative tasks. We are also active members of the Mid Devon Healthcare PCN, benefiting from additional support from PCN ARRS staff, including a robust social prescribing team and an in-house Mental Health Practitioner.

You will be joining us at an exciting juncture as we aim to enhance and develop patient services from our new facility, which has received a 'good' rating from CQC and achieved a 96% score on last year's QOF report.

We offer a contract aligned with the BMA Model and are open to collaborating with the right candidate to tailor the job plan to meet your needs.

Initially, this position will be salaried, but we welcome candidates interested in potential partnership opportunities after a mutually agreed trial period, as part of our Pathway to Partnership Scheme.

We are a training practice with a GP Registrar trainer, an F2 trainer, and we also host medical students. We encourage applicants with a passion for education.

Job Responsibilities

We accommodate a significant number of medical students from Exeter Medical School, with up to 12 students per week across years 3, 4, and 5. Our practice and teaching program received excellent feedback from students last year.

This non-list holding position includes:

  • Supervising clinics (potentially with multiple students running clinics simultaneously).
  • Conducting tutorials on both clinical and non-clinical subjects.
  • Coordinating timetables with administrative support.
  • Providing evaluations and sign-offs for case-based discussions, mini-CEXs, professionalism assessments, and DOPs.
  • Supporting students holistically and offering feedback to the university regarding any concerns.
  • Engaging with the Exeter University UEMS team.

During student holidays, this role transitions into a salaried GP position or could be structured as term-time only.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for and experience in undergraduate education, with a teaching qualification being highly desirable. They should be organized, clinically current, and a collaborative team player. Candidates must be an Exeter University UEMS trainer assessor (a brief update course completed every 2 years), ideally with experience working with Exeter Medical School students.
