Role Overview
Since the inception of our PhD programme in 2020, we have been dedicated to ensuring that it meets the expectations of stakeholders, students, and the Institute as a whole. This position is crucial for fostering a supportive environment and offering a diverse array of training opportunities that will enrich the students' skills and enhance their career prospects.
You will report to the Director of HR while collaborating closely with the Programme Director, Recruitment Specialist, Communications and Engagement Manager, and Director of Strategic Marketing.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Oversee the student experience from initial inquiry through to graduation.
- Collaborate with PhD candidates, their supervisors, and key stakeholders to continuously enhance the programme.
- Develop and maintain an annual schedule of activities for all cohorts, ensuring the seamless execution of the programme through critical milestones such as induction, reviews, and project assignments.
- Engage with both internal and external partners to communicate progress on key milestones and provide updates on all cohorts.
- Conduct regular meetings with PhD students to assess their wellbeing and achievements, working with supervisors to address any challenges.
- Design and implement recruitment strategies that align with the Institute's equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives, targeting a broad spectrum of candidates and promoting opportunities for underrepresented groups in STEM.
- Raise awareness of the programme and advocate for the scheme externally.
- Establish sustainable partnerships with various academic institutions to enhance the programme and provide enriching opportunities for students.
- Supervise the Training Coordinator.
- Collaborate with the HR team to develop a comprehensive portfolio of career development opportunities, including mentoring and coaching, and support the establishment of career pathways for scientific, technical, and professional roles within the Institute.
Selection Criteria
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and activities.
- Experience in designing and delivering training programmes, preferably in a scientific or academic context.
- Understanding of training methodologies and practices in research.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience in project evaluation, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with the academic environment and the challenges faced by postgraduate students.
- Flexibility to undertake additional tasks as required.
