About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Survey Programmer to join our team at the National Centre for Social Research. As a Survey Programmer, you will play a critical role in supporting our research projects by developing and maintaining programs and scripts to collect and analyze data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Development: Participate in client research survey projects, developing program scripts using Blaise and the Survey Control Suite (SCS) API to setup client survey projects, load sample data, generate communications to respondents, load survey data from Blaise to SCS for monitoring and reporting, and facilitate editing, coding and reconciling data before final extraction and delivery of survey data.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Conduct testing of survey questionnaires and associated systems, including manual testing to verify the scripted questionnaire against specifications, using automated test data generation to execute all routing paths, logging and tracking issues and resolution.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support for end users as it relates to client survey projects and supporting systems, and perform routine daily support tasks.
  • Documentation: Write technical documentation for programs developed, new support processes, programming tips and techniques, how-to guides, and other related documentation kept on internal Wikis.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the team to meet departmental objectives, satisfy client project needs and corporate projects requirements, as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: Diploma, Degree or equivalent qualification in software development, software engineering, information processing, programming or related field.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical skills in systems analysis, programming, testing and support, with experience in using and developing programs and scripts in C#, Powershell, Json or other programming/scripting languages.
  • Experience: Experience in capturing and manipulating data in various formats (flat files, SPSS files, SQL databases etc.), understanding of relational database concepts, SQL queries, database connections, and knowledge or experience in testing systems, creating test cases, automated testing, logging defects, resolving issues.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and attention to detail.
Desirable Skills
  • API Experience: Knowledge or experience working with API (application programming interfaces), Javascript, HTML, CSS would be an asset.
  • Scripting Experience: Knowledge of scripting in survey platforms such as Blaise or IBM DC (Unicom Intelligence) would be an asset.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in a Market or Social research agency or related area would be an asset.
