PhD Researcher: Spatial Data Integration for Breast Cancer Treatment Response

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute Full time
Project Overview

Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team and contribute to a groundbreaking project focused on predicting breast cancer treatment response using multi-modal spatial data integration.

Research Context

Breast cancer patients exhibit highly variable responses to different treatments, and the biological basis of these differences remains obscure. Our research aims to dissect the contribution of the spatially resolved multicellular tumour ecosystem as a response driver by leveraging novel technologies for multiplexed molecular measurements of tumour tissues.

Objectives
  • Collate a large and unique collection of multi-modal spatial data from hundreds of breast cancer patients enrolled in neoadjuvant immunotherapy trials.
  • Develop efficient computational tools to parse and integrate these data across assays and modalities.
  • Build multi-modal predictive models to test in independent datasets and surpass the current state-of-the-art.
Methodology

The successful candidate will be responsible for collating diverse data, placing them in a shared coordinate space, and unpicking critical correlations that underpin treatment effect. They will receive extensive training in cancer pathology, highly multiplexed imaging, and predictive modelling.

Requirements
  • Recent graduates or final-year undergraduates with a First/Upper Second Class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
  • Relevant research experience, gained through Master's study or while working in a laboratory, is strongly encouraged.
Funding and Eligibility

This four-year studentship is funded by Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute and includes full funding for University fees and a stipend of £21,000 per annum for four years. We welcome applications from both UK and overseas students.
