As a Roadway Design Engineer, your role will involve creating and evaluating various components of roadway designs utilizing advanced engineering software. You will oversee the entire design process from initial planning to final approval for a diverse array of transportation initiatives. Your responsibilities will include calculating necessary quantities and preparing comprehensive plan sets for project milestones. You will also address and resolve any design-related challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle. Adhering to the standards, specifications, policies, and procedures set forth by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is essential in your development of transportation projects. It is crucial that all deliverables are precise, accurate, and reflect a commitment to exceptional customer service and professionalism.
Essential Qualifications
• Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written, tailored to engage with a variety of audiences.
• Familiarity with roadway design standards, construction techniques, specifications, and materials.
• Proven experience in applying design standards and engineering principles relevant to roadway projects.
• Strong networking abilities to build relationships with colleagues, contractors, and regulatory representatives.

• Ability to effectively plan and manage work schedules.

Additional Considerations
• Experience in managing roadway design projects within the transportation sector is preferred.

• Possession of an Engineering in Training (EIT) certification or a Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable.
