Roadway Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Roadway Design Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and reviewing sub-components and completing roadway designs using automated engineering and design software.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and review sub-components and complete roadway designs using automated engineering and design software
- Compute quantities and prepare plan assemblies for project milestones
- Take appropriate action to resolve problems related to project design
- Utilize VDOT's standards, specifications, policies, and procedures in the development of transportation projects
- Ensure deliverables are accurate and correct in content and demonstrate customer service and work habits that reflect the VDOT values
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences
- Experience in roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials
- Experience applying design standards, specifications, policies, and procedures
- Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge
- Skill in building networks and relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers, and FHWA representatives
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering and design software
- Ability to plan and schedule work
- Skill in delivering exemplary customer service
- Knowledge of principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards and special designs
- Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation projects
- A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired
- Engineering in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license
