We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Graduate Teaching Assistant to join our team at the University of Glasgow. The successful candidate will have a strong academic background and excellent communication skills.
Job Purpose:The Graduate Teaching Assistant will contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by undertaking a range of teaching, assessment, and administrative duties. This will involve working closely with academic staff to develop and deliver teaching materials, assessing student work, and providing feedback to students.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:- Contribute to the planning, organization, and delivery of undergraduate teaching.
- Deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities directed towards the delivery of subjects at undergraduate level.
- Participate in course administration duties, including effective communication of information, marking, assessment, and timeous constructive feedback.
- Assist with the development of teaching materials, ensuring content and methods of delivery meet determined learning objectives.
- Contribute to the effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organization, feedback, and assessment.
- Apply specialist knowledge to teaching that best meets the needs of individuals and groups of learners, ensuring an inclusive and evidence-based approach that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
- Participate in the full assessment process using a variety of methods and techniques, including oral assessment, and provide effective, timely, and appropriate feedback to students that supports their learning.
- Assist with the supervision of student projects, dissertations, and any practical work, advising on skills, methods, and techniques to assist the transfer of knowledge, and respond appropriately to the diverse range of learner support/needs.
- Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
The successful candidate will have a strong academic background, with a relevant Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) and/or a PhD (MPhil/PhD) or PGT qualification in a relevant subject. They will also have experience of delivering and supporting undergraduate or postgraduate students, either in an online, distance learning, or face-to-face environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of the subject area, excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to use IT and relevant software packages to support teaching and learning. They will also have a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, and be able to work to deadlines.
