We are currently seeking a dedicated Carnivore Care Specialist to join our dynamic team within a vibrant and busy section. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to engage with a diverse range of carnivore species. As a modern and forward-thinking zoo, we pride ourselves on our commitment to animal welfare and conservation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest standards of husbandry, health, and welfare for a variety of carnivore species, each with unique needs. Responsibilities include training, restraining, and capturing animals, as well as assisting veterinary staff with medical procedures and administering medication.
  • Contribute to the development and adherence to risk assessments and safe operating procedures while working with all animals.
  • Actively promote Chester Zoo's mission through engaging interactions with visitors and participation in various media and specialized conferences.
  • Maintain and update daily records of animal care, which are then uploaded to the global online animal records system, ZIMS (Zoological Information Management System).

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • A HND or degree-level qualification in a zoological-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in the care and management of various carnivore species within a zoo or safari park environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in contemporary zoo animal husbandry.
  • Exceptional observational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience adhering to strict Safe Working Practices.
  • A valid UK driving license.
  • Proficiency in computer use and basic software applications, including ZIMS software, is advantageous for maintaining accurate records.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Permanent contract of 24 hours per week.
  • Annual salary of £16,021.69 pro rata (based on 24 hours per week).
  • Work schedule includes 24 hours per week, spread over 3 days, including every other weekend, typically from 08:00 to 17:00.
  • 33 days of annual leave per annum pro rata.
