Senior Manager, Arms and Armour Department

The Head of Department, Arms and Armour, will play a pivotal role in assembling, managing, and executing auctions for Bonhams' esteemed Antique Arms and Armour department. This senior leadership position requires a deep understanding of weaponry and armour, manufacturers and craftsmen, historical context, and market trends.
Key Responsibilities- Effectively manage a small team of experts, leading by direction and example to maximize team efficiency.
- Catalogue Antique Arms and Armour sales, and assist with preparation of catalogues on a timely basis to meet deadlines.
- Maintain budgeted commission levels and ensure the department meets all contractual obligations to both Bonhams buyers and vendors.
- Develop and maintain relationships with collectors and individuals with known collections of Antique Arms and Armour.
- Actively pursue new business opportunities for the department and drive sales growth.
- Foster good relations with trade and professional bodies to advance the department's interests.
- Manage the department's budget and ensure effective use of expenditure to bring maximum benefits.
- Proven experience in the specialty field and/or in the auction industry.
- Established relationships with dealers and collectors in the field.
- Strong written and verbal communication and networking skills.
- Detail-oriented and well-organized management skills.
- Ability to prioritize and meet strict scheduled deadlines.
- Computer proficiency and ability to work within Bonhams' business enterprise software.
- Ability to travel as necessary to achieve goals.
