Position Title: Ecologist (Specialist in Ornithology)

Work Environment: This role involves fieldwork throughout various locations as needed, alongside occasional visits to the main office.

Work Flexibility: The position allows for a hybrid working model, combining remote work with office attendance when not engaged in field surveys. Fieldwork is a critical component of this role, necessitating travel and potential overnight stays. A valid driver's license is mandatory. Role Summary:

We are in search of a qualified Ecologist with a focus on Ornithology to enhance our growing environmental team. Ideal candidates should possess at least two years of experience in ecological consultancy and demonstrate strong identification skills in avian species and other wildlife.

The selected candidate will oversee and conduct ornithological and ecological surveys, collaborating on diverse environmental initiatives. Responsibilities include providing regular feedback reports, alerting the development team to ecological concerns, and assisting in data collection, mapping, report writing, project estimation, and securing new opportunities.

This position entails substantial fieldwork, report generation, and interaction with clients and stakeholders to ensure effective planning and execution of survey activities, leading to successful project outcomes. The role offers a mix of office, home, and fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct various breeding and wintering bird surveys, adhering to Best Practice Guidance and established methodologies.
  • Perform bird surveys, including site evaluations, vantage point assessments, and nesting surveys as directed.
  • Contribute to avian impact assessments for diverse development projects, particularly within the renewable energy sector.
  • Provide comprehensive ornithological and ecological reports to support development efforts, including contributions to Ecological Impact Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports.
  • Organize and maintain ecological data in accordance with specified protocols to ensure integrity and security.
  • Assist in ecological surveys and report writing for various species and habitats as necessary.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation and best practices, as well as the latest research and mitigation strategies in ornithology and ecology.
  • Engage with project stakeholders to define site-specific assessment scopes.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and project teams to discuss progress and findings.
  • Complete additional tasks as required to support the company's evolving objectives.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A degree in ecology, environmental science, biology, or a related field.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience in conducting bird surveys.
  • Strong fieldwork and data collection capabilities.
  • Experience in various bird surveying techniques and ecological monitoring.
  • In-depth knowledge of bird species and identification skills.
  • Excellent communication and report writing abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient analytical skills and IT competency.
  • Project management experience, including planning and budgeting.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in additional ecological survey techniques.
  • Familiarity with GIS software and data management tools.
  • Experience in completing Ecological Impact Assessments and related reports.
