Position Overview
The respiratory division at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust presents a remarkable opportunity for a senior clinical practitioner to join a dedicated and skilled team delivering exceptional pulmonary healthcare. Professionals will acquire expertise in general pulmonary medicine alongside specialized fields such as Interstitial Lung Disease and Sleep and Ventilation. Training will be facilitated by leading authorities in the domain of pulmonary medicine. Candidates will be encouraged to engage in audits and research initiatives, with opportunities to present findings both locally and at globally recognized conferences.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a high standard of service to the Trust, responsible for the assessment and management of patients referred to the specialty in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
- Collaborate with consultant colleagues to provide and enhance clinical leadership, contributing to the overarching vision and values of the service.
- Supervise and manage junior medical staff and allied health professionals effectively.
- Engage in clinical governance activities and ongoing professional development.
- Participate in the continuous strategic redesign of services.
- Complete mandatory training and participate in annual performance reviews.
These responsibilities may evolve over time in accordance with the development of Pulmonary Services. You will be expected to adapt to changes aimed at continuously enhancing patient care, as agreed upon with your fellow clinicians during the annual review of your job plan.

Required Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience.
- GMC registration with a license to practice.
Desirable
- At least six months of experience within the NHS in the UK.
- Experience in various pulmonary subspecialties.
Required Skills
Essential
- Proficient in thoracic ultrasound, with the ability to independently perform pleural aspirations and chest drain insertions.
- Competent in managing acute non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
Desirable
- Level 1 RCR qualification in thoracic ultrasound.
Required Knowledge

- Strong understanding of Pulmonary Medicine.
Required Qualifications

- MBChB / MBBS.
- MRCP or equivalent postgraduate qualification.

- Experience in conducting audits and a solid understanding of research principles and evidence-based practice.
