Job Summary

MacGregor Black is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Head of Technical to lead our technical department and drive the delivery of high-quality products to our retail partners.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a multi-site technical team, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring alignment with customer expectations and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Lead the technical department with diligence, independent judgment, and a values-led approach.
  • Team Development: Develop and lead the technical team across the business estate, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality products.
  • Process Alignment: Align systems and processes across the cluster, ensuring seamless integration and efficient operations.
  • Food Safety and Quality: Work with the leadership team to develop and deliver a Food Safety and Quality culture across the business, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • KPI Development: Develop and maintain key performance indicators to monitor, maintain, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Customer Alignment: Ensure transparent and strategic alignment with customer expectations and requirements, developing and maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as a trusted advisor on all Food Safety, quality, and technical matters related to the Cluster.
  • Value Optimization: Optimize value across the technical estate, ensuring efficient operations and maximum return on investment.

Requirements

  • Education: MSc in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven senior leadership experience in a technical management role within the chilled food industry for 5+ years.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of HACCP (Level 4 minimum), BRC, and other food safety management systems, including customer (retailer) standards.
  • Skills: Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, with experience within chilled food production and the ability to relate to planned operational processes.
