Reading, Reading, United Kingdom GCHQ Full time

Position Overview

The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is a pivotal agency focused on intelligence, cybersecurity, and national security, dedicated to safeguarding the UK. Utilizing advanced technology and strategic partnerships, we work to identify, analyze, and mitigate threats. At GCHQ, you will engage in diverse and stimulating tasks within a supportive and inclusive environment that prioritizes teamwork.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a division of GCHQ, serves as the UK Government's primary authority on Cyber Security. The NCSC is central to the Government's Cyber Security Strategy, aiming to establish the UK as the safest environment for online activities.

The NCSC Events team is renowned for executing high-profile stakeholder gatherings that exemplify quality, professionalism, inclusivity, and robust promotion of the NCSC brand.

Role Responsibilities

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Senior Events Manager to join our dynamic and collaborative team. Reporting directly to the Head of Events, you will lead a team of three in executing our annual events program, which includes flagship conferences, large-scale internal gatherings, and other significant stakeholder events throughout the year.

Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the planning and implementation of marketing strategies for major events, utilizing various channels including email, social media, and website platforms.

Key duties include:

  • Developing comprehensive communication strategies and crafting web and email content while ensuring compliance with brand identity guidelines.
  • Managing delegate logistics, including audience identification, invitation distribution, application processing, and onsite registration.
  • Coordinating sponsorship initiatives, collaborating closely with our event delivery partners and senior communications teams.
  • Leading the recruitment and approval process for sponsors and exhibitors, significantly contributing to the event budget.
  • Overseeing the complete delivery of internal and external events at various locations.

This position presents an excellent opportunity for professionals eager to enhance their careers by leading a vibrant and agile team within a larger organization, allowing you to make a meaningful impact.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will manage critical elements of the CYBERUK event project, focusing on sponsor and exhibitor coordination and collaboration with the NCSC and our event delivery partner.

You will champion the use of event management software tools, ensuring that events are designed and executed inclusively, in alignment with NCSC's Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion objectives. Additionally, you will manage event data in compliance with GDPR regulations, performing data analysis and visualization to support event evaluations.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Reviewing and drafting event branding and communications, including creating design briefs for external partners.
  • Serving as a point of contact and expert for event delivery, providing training and resources to assist colleagues in successful event execution.
  • Managing event budgets and coordinating with the commercial team as necessary.
  • Directly supervising two Senior Event Officers and indirectly overseeing one Event Officer, while handling financial requisitions for event-related expenses.

Participation in training and attendance at relevant conferences to enhance professional development is expected, focusing on event best practices, technology, cybersecurity, and communication skills.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

This role is ideal for individuals looking to transition into a leadership position within a larger team. If you have a passion for events, particularly in the technical sector, and possess experience in team management or mentorship, this opportunity is tailored for you.

We value candidates who support their team's growth, exhibit a motivated personality with keen attention to detail, and enjoy collaborating across various projects. If you are open to travel, thrive in onsite event management, and are eager to engage in all project elements, you will excel in this role.

Essential Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with substantial experience in event management or related account management roles. A strong interest in event coordination and marketing, coupled with a passion for technology and cybersecurity, is essential.

Key qualifications include:

  • Experience in managing or mentoring teams, with a proven track record of fostering team development.
  • Experience working with agencies to deliver complex events or similar projects.
  • Proficiency in event management tools and CRM systems.
  • Understanding of budgeting and cost management, with the ability to manage third-party vendors effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A collaborative approach to teamwork and stakeholder engagement, with flexibility to work varied hours and travel as needed.

Evidence of effective stakeholder and customer relationship management is necessary, and experience in branding, digital marketing, and content creation would be advantageous.

Benefits Overview

At NCSC and GCHQ, we pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment that encourages open-mindedness and diverse perspectives. We are committed to nurturing talent and helping you reach your full potential through comprehensive training and development opportunities tailored to your needs.

You will receive a competitive starting salary, along with additional benefits such as:

  • Generous annual leave that increases with service.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Recognition opportunities through performance schemes.
  • Interest-free season ticket loans.
  • Cycle to work schemes.
  • Access to on-site facilities, including gyms and dining options.
  • Paid parental and adoption leave.
  • Attractive pension scheme with significant employer contributions.
