Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a professional driving service for medical personnel travelling to meet the needs of patients requiring out-of-hours medical attention.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team situated at one of Cumbria Health's bases in Cumbria.
  • Drive the clinician to home visits, meeting the needs of patients in the out-of-hours period.
  • Ensure the rules of the road are followed, utilising all available vehicle and Webfleet systems, to ensure safe driving is maintained throughout.
  • Assist in completing patient contact forms where applicable for control and clinicians in the event of technology failure.
  • Assist the clinician as and when necessary, including assisting with equipment, chaperoning, and communications with control.
  • Alerting Emergency Services in the event of an emergency, following guidance from the clinician.
  • Monitor the prescription pad for the vehicle, following the CHoC Prescription guidance.
  • Assist in the transfer, countersigning, and transport of Controlled Drugs.
  • Ensure effective handover with the oncoming shift, including driver colleagues, clinicians, receptionists, and control room supervisor.
  • Carry out post-shift checks and restock if required.
  • Follow up Left Equipment when not required for visits.
  • Ensure clear and concise communications with your Team Leader are maintained through various communication methods.
  • Support the Team Leader in the day-to-day management and maintenance of the base.
  • Regularly log into your CHoC email account and familiarise yourself with the CHoC policies/forms and other important information on the website.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties in departments/locations as and when required, subject to training and capabilities.

Person Specification

  • Full driving licence
  • Maths and English grade C or equivalent
  • Advanced driving qualification (desirable)
  • Safe driving qualification (desirable)
  • Driver training qualification (desirable)
  • ECDL or equivalent (desirable)
  • Active/attentive listening
  • Calm and confident telephone manner
  • Ability to record information quickly and accurately
  • Experience of following guidelines and working protocols in a professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills, specifically keeping all team members informed
  • Confidence to work within a multidisciplinary team, fostering positive working relationships with a variety of individuals from CHoC and other agencies.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and as a lone worker when necessary
  • Experienced driver with a checkable record
  • Experience of vehicle checks - vehicle management - basic knowledge of car maintenance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Thorough local knowledge of the area
