Key Responsibilities
Our acute medical services are complemented by a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, NHS 111 walk-in service, and a Same Day Emergency Care Unit. These departments are staffed by highly motivated professionals who are committed to delivering exceptional patient care. Clinical governance is fundamental to our operations, ensuring that patient safety and quality are our top priorities.
The Acute Medical Unit at QEQM Hospital consists of two short-stay units (A & B), located next to the Same Day Emergency Care Unit. Our newly established 'Rapid Assessment & Majors' area within the Emergency Department serves as a crucial interface for medical patients, overseen by the Emergency Department's in-reach Acute physician and Geriatric/Frailty Team. The role includes participation in the on-call weekday rota, approximately 1:10, with a weekend commitment of around 1 in 18, without days off in lieu for weekend work.

Qualifications and Training
Essential Qualifications:
- Full GMC Registration
- MRCP or an equivalent postgraduate qualification
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via relevant CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), or relevant CESR or European Community Rights, or Consultant experience in Acute/General medicine
Desirable Qualifications:
- Leadership or teaching experience
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes, publications
- Additional degrees such as BSc, MSc, MD
Skills and Experience
Essential Skills:
- Comprehensive teaching experience and proficiency in Acute Medicine
- Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS, or graduation from a UK Medical school
- Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers, and other staff
- Ability to independently manage patient responsibilities
Desirable Skills:
- RCP Specialist Certification in Acute Medicine
- Clinical experience
- Additional skills in point of care ultrasound, ECHO (FICE)
Clinical Governance
Desirable Attributes:
- Evidence of participation in Audit, Quality Improvement Projects, and Mortality meetings
