Position Summary:

Operating across our three sectors: Civil, Defence, and Engines at our manufacturing facilities, you will play a vital role. Our East Cowes site, established in 1901, employs around 800 individuals and is where we design, produce, test, and maintain high-performance structures and systems. We have two facilities on the Isle of Wight, each utilizing the company’s unique capabilities in major assemblies and composite structures for the global aerospace sector. Our clientele includes major industry players.

In light of a thrilling growth phase, we are currently looking for skilled Tooling Engineers to join our dynamic team.

Located at our East Cowes facility and reporting to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager, the successful candidate will become part of a team of 6-10 Manufacturing Engineers and may need to accommodate limited travel, both nationally and internationally.

Relocation support will be provided for successful candidates within the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing tooling solutions (mould tools; 5-axis fixtures; assembly jigs; shop aids) to address complex challenges, from initial concept to production.
  • Designing tooling with a high degree of process capability using Catia V5, employing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to validate such capability.
  • Managing tool fabrication quotes, providing tooling input for new product quotes, and overseeing tooling configuration changes, including cost estimation and schedule coordination.
  • Promoting a safety-first mindset and ensuring adherence to GKN Aerospace's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and standards.
  • Utilizing root cause analysis and implementing preventative and corrective actions to minimize non-conformances.
  • Enhancing production processes through the application of Lean initiatives.

Candidate Profile:

Essential Qualifications:

  • A HNC qualification in an Engineering-related field or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in Tool Design related to composite moulds and assembly jigs, along with Design for Manufacture (DFM).
  • Proven experience with CAD Software (preferably Catia V5).
  • Experience in resolving issues within the supply chain, both internal and external.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000.
  • Background in the Aerospace sector.
  • Knowledge of the AS9145 APQP process or equivalent.
  • Understanding and experience with an ERP system.
  • Ability to interpret aged drawings.
  • Green Belt Certification.

This role necessitates UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC) due to the nature of the responsibilities involved.
