We are currently seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our dedicated team of Rheumatology Nurse Specialists. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a dynamic group committed to delivering exceptional patient care and driving improvements in service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Upon successful completion of the in-house training program and achievement of required competencies, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the advancement of expert nursing practices within the Rheumatology field, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care for our patients.
  • Provide professional guidance and leadership to colleagues, multidisciplinary teams, patients, and their families.
  • Support senior management in upholding and enhancing professional care standards across all Rheumatology services, ensuring alignment with national health agendas and the development of specific service objectives.
  • Serve as a resource for educational initiatives and research activities.
  • Conduct independent nurse-led clinics.
  • Participate in the CNS telephone helpline, which has received positive feedback, aiming to manage high call volumes effectively and reduce unnecessary patient visits to acute care facilities.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register.

Required Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience in a complex healthcare environment or acute NHS setting, with a focus on supervising and mentoring junior staff.
  • Demonstrated professional and clinical knowledge in the specialty, supported by specialized training and continuing professional development.
  • Ability to act as a practice-based supervisor/assessor in accordance with NMC standards.
  • A professional portfolio showcasing ongoing professional development and evidence of maintaining professional registration.
  • Relevant clinical experience within the specialty, including supervision and education of junior staff.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate nursing students.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate a shift or departmental area.
  • Experience in learning from incidents and complaints, facilitating changes in practice.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, team building, resource management, time management, role modeling, change management, clinical governance, audit and research, and workforce planning.
  • Awareness of NHS policies and political landscape.
