We are on the lookout for a Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader to oversee and guide our dedicated maintenance crew. This position is pivotal in ensuring the operational excellence of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

As the Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader, you will be accountable for managing your section, ensuring performance and quality standards are met, optimizing process efficiency, and implementing a preventative maintenance strategy for both fixed and mobile equipment. You will lead a team while adhering to health and safety regulations across all activities. Your role will also involve promoting a culture of respect and inclusion.

Your duties will encompass a hands-on approach to all maintenance tasks, including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), defect management, breakdown response, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and engineering projects.

Specific responsibilities as the Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader will include (but are not limited to):

  • Enhancing productivity by optimizing resource use and identifying process improvements
  • Driving the achievement of Overall Operations Effectiveness (OOE) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Communicating performance objectives and KPIs to your team through regular meetings and briefings
  • Supervising maintenance operations
  • Conducting maintenance checks and inspections as necessary
  • Applying fundamental maintenance practices, including equipment checks and lubrication
  • Reviewing maintenance inspections and documenting any defects
  • Monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators related to site operations
  • Managing production-related costs and collaborating with management on budget reviews
  • Upholding Health and Safety standards and ensuring compliance with Safe Systems of Work
  • Leading, managing, and developing your team to enhance engagement and performance
  • Addressing complex technical challenges as they arise
  • Managing relationships with third-party service providers to ensure effective contracts
  • Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with regulations and company policies

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader position will play a crucial role in fostering an engineering culture that embraces continuous improvement. You should possess experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity within a similar heavy manufacturing environment.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • ESSENTIAL - Proficiency in Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic systems, along with a foundational understanding of electrical systems
  • Relevant qualifications such as HNC/HND or a recognized apprenticeship; a BEng is advantageous
  • Ability to challenge team members and ensure accountability for task completion
  • Proficient in computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel)
  • Strong communication skills coupled with a positive, proactive attitude
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement methodologies, Lean practices, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis techniques
