Alstom stands as the premier supplier of new trains and train services in the UK & Ireland, as well as a key player in signaling and rail infrastructure. We are responsible for constructing or currently building nearly 40% of the UK mainline train fleet, providing an extensive array of innovative solutions in the rail sector, from advanced high-speed rolling stock to maintenance, modernization, infrastructure, and signaling.

Role Overview:
This position is part of the UK&I Digital and Integrated Systems Product Line, which oversees a variety of Signaling and Infrastructure Projects throughout the UK. The Engineering Quality Manager will be tasked with overseeing engineering quality deliverables, ensuring that outputs from the site meet the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that engineering standards are well understood and consistently applied.
  • Identify deviations and manage corrective actions as necessary.
  • Propose relevant improvements to processes.
  • Conduct Engineering Quality audits.
  • Ensure the integration of Design Review Type 1 (Technical Maturity) and Design Review Type 2 (Technical Issues) into engineering practices.
  • Monitor Software Baseline Agile Monitoring (BAM) to understand unexpected baseline changes and implement lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
  • Define Software Baseline Strategy and include it in Engineering Management Plans.
  • Implement and adhere to the REX Process for projects and processes, including Problem Solving 8D, CSS, and Process Reviews.
  • Support site improvement plans through CONQ management.
  • Lead APSYS (Alstom Production System) Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with processes and realize return on investment.

Enhancing Quality Engineering Standards:

  • Manage a list of recurring issues and verify their recurrence in project execution.
  • Lead the REX committee and incorporate return of experience into engineering standards and best practices.
  • Ensure that Tender Design Review and Tender Gate Review processes are implemented, monitored, and maintained.
  • Optimize DFQ checklists for engineering deliverables and design reviews.
  • Integrate REX into DFQ checklists for engineering deliverables and design reviews.
  • Prepare for and participate in Tender Gate Reviews and product development discussions.

Assurance of Quality in Engineering Deliverables:

  • Assess the quality status of engineering deliverables, including REX.
  • Support the preparation of GR regarding engineering scope.
  • Ensure the quality of engineering suppliers (sub-contractors).
  • Facilitate the connection between engineering and manufacturing engineering (design for manufacturing).
  • Deploy process/product FMEA: critical characteristics.

Effective Management of Design Reviews:

  • Challenge and verify the consistency of Design Reviews against project risks.
  • Ensure that Design Reviews are well-prepared and contribute to the GR process.
  • Monitor action plans and update the status of Design Reviews.

Management of Engineering Quality Issues:

  • Ensure that the problem-solving process is effectively applied and meets objectives.
  • Involve the engineering team in resolving customer issues when necessary.
  • Update Quality Engineering KPIs and propose improvement action plans as needed.
  • Propose and follow up on action plans for quality improvement.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Master's degree in engineering (electromechanical, electrical, material, mechanical, etc.) or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in managing quality tools and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Familiarity with the railway industry standards and certifications, particularly in signaling and infrastructure.

Desirable:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in design review processes for signaling and infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of software baseline strategies and the reasons for changes.
