Role Overview:
This position is part of the UK&I Digital and Integrated Systems Product Line, responsible for delivering a variety of Signaling and Infrastructure Projects throughout the UK. The Engineering Quality Manager will oversee engineering quality deliverables, ensuring that outputs from the site meet the established quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure comprehensive knowledge and application of Engineering standards.
  • Alert relevant parties in case of deviations.
  • Manage corrective actions as necessary.
  • Propose relevant improvements.
  • Conduct Engineering Quality audits.
  • Ensure Design Review Type 1 (Technical Maturity) and Design Review Type 2 (Technical Issues) are integrated into Engineering Practice and executed as planned.
  • Monitor Software Baseline Agile Monitoring (BAM) to understand unexpected baseline changes and implement lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
  • Define Software Baseline Strategy and include it in Engineering Management Plans.
  • Deploy and adhere to the REX Process for Projects and Processes, including Problem Solving 8D, CSS, and Process Reviews.
  • Support site improvement plans through CONQ management.
  • Lead the APSYS (Alstom Production System) Quality Improvement Clause and Quality in Development Phase Improvement Plan to ensure compliance with processes and realize return on investment.

Enhancing Quality Engineering Standards:

  • Manage a list of top recurring issues and verify recurrence in project execution.
  • Lead the REX committee and incorporate return of experience into Engineering standards and best practices.
  • Ensure implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of Tender Design Review and Tender Gate Review.
  • Optimize DFQ checklist for Engineering deliverables and Design Review.
  • Integrate REX into DFQ checklist for Engineering deliverables and Design Review checklist.
  • Prepare for and attend Tender Gate Review and product development meetings.

Quality Assurance of Engineering Deliverables:

  • Assess the quality status of Engineering deliverables, including REX.
  • Support GR preparation concerning Engineering scope.
  • Ensure quality of Engineering Suppliers (engineering subcontractors).
  • Link engineering with manufacturing engineering (design for manufacturing).
  • Implement process/product FMEA: critical characteristics.

Efficient Management of Design Reviews:

  • Challenge and verify the consistency of Design Reviews against Project Risks.
  • Ensure thorough preparation of Design Reviews to support the GR process.
  • Track action plans and update Design Review status.

Management of Engineering Quality Issues:

  • Ensure proper application of the problem-solving process to meet objectives.
  • Involve the Engineering team in the Customer issue resolution process when necessary.
  • Update Quality Engineering KPIs and propose action plans for improvement as needed.
  • Propose and monitor action plans for enhancement.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Master's degree in engineering (electromechanical, electrical, material, mechanical, or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in managing Quality tools and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Familiarity with the railway industry (norms, certifications) is advantageous, particularly in Signaling and Infrastructure.

Desirable:

  • Master's degree.

Experience:

  • Understanding of Processes and Products delivered in projects.
  • Application of a wide range of Quality Management Tools.

Desirable Experience:

  • Background in Engineering with potential for advancement to SED or direct subordinates of SED.
  • Experience in Design Review Process for Signaling and Infrastructure Projects.
  • Awareness of Software Baseline Strategies and the rationale behind changes.
