Job Title: Highways Associate Director – Birmingham

Tony Gee and Partners is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highways Associate Director to join our Birmingham office.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead the technical delivery of highways projects, ensuring high-quality standards and timely completion.
  • Develop and implement highway engineering capabilities within the Birmingham office, collaborating with directors and specialists across the UK.
  • Manage and direct a team of engineers, providing training and development opportunities to enhance their skills.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, identifying new business opportunities and contributing to fee budgets and proposals.
  • Coordinate with other engineers to ensure effective project delivery, managing calculations, drawings, and documents.
  • Specifying and managing site examination and investigation works, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Identify and manage risks to agreed acceptable levels, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Requirements:
  • Chartered engineer with a relevant institution, holding CEng + MICE and/or MIHT or near-chartered engineer with 10-15 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in highways technical design delivery, with in-depth knowledge of DMRB/MCHW and detailed design experience on road schemes above £5M construction value.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and manage a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and other essential software.
Desirable Experience:
  • Experience in MicroStation, Microsoft Project, Civils 3D, MX, Infraworks, Windes/Microdrainage, PDS Sign/Line, Arcady, and Lighting Reality.
  • Alignment design, drainage design, pavement design, road restraint design, signs & markings design, and lighting design.
  • Experience of Design and Build schemes, including supporting schemes through Construction.
  • Understanding of related highway disciplines, including structures, earthworks, ITS, landscaping, road safety, traffic analysis, and BIM protocols in BS1192.
