Highways Director

Tony Gee and Partners is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highways Associate Director to join our team in the Birmingham office.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will play a key role in the technical delivery of our highways projects and the development of highway engineering capabilities within our Birmingham office. You will work closely with our directors and highway specialists to deliver a range of highways sector works, including major UK trunk road improvements, new bypass and link road schemes, and access roads to developments.
Main Responsibilities- Act as a highways discipline technical lead, responsible for the punctual delivery of projects to high quality standards and achieving financial targets.
- Undertake the role of Highways Discipline Manager or Highways Discipline Director, providing technical expertise and effective managerial experience.
- Manage and direct a team of staff, providing training and development opportunities to ensure their technical skills are up-to-date.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, identifying potential work and contributing to the growth of our business.
- Prepare fee budgets, proposals, and resource requirements for projects under your control, working closely with our commercial team.
- Coordinate with other engineers within the regional offices and between technical groups to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Manage the preparation of calculations, drawings, and other documents, ensuring they are controlled during project execution.
- Manage and liaise with clients on proposals and project work, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
- Specify and/or manage site examination and investigation works in a safe and effective manner, identifying and managing risks to agreed acceptable levels.
- In-depth knowledge of DMRB/MCHW and detailed design experience on road schemes above £5M construction value.
- Detailed technical skills across the key elements of highways design, including alignment design, drainage design, pavement design, road restraint design, signs and markings design, and lighting design.
- Liaison with direct stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and other engineers.
- Professional Qualifications: CEng + MICE and/or MIHT or Experienced near-chartered engineer with 10-15 years of experience.
- Essential Software: Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD.
- Experience in the following software: MicroStation, Microsoft Project, Civils 3D, MX, Infraworks, Windes/Microdrainage, PDS Sign/Line, Arcady, Lighting Reality.
- Alignment design, drainage design, pavement design, road restraint design, signs and markings design, and lighting design.
- Experience of Design and Build schemes, including supporting schemes through Construction.
- Understanding of related highway disciplines, including inter-alia, structures, earthworks, ITS, landscaping, road safety, traffic analysis.
- Knowledge of the BIM protocols in BS1192.
