Job Summary

Marshall Fleet Solutions (MFS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Depot Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of their Croydon service depot.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Manage the workshop activities, ensuring financial, productivity, stock control, and quality performance measures are met.
  • Contract Management: Collaborate with the contract management team to achieve key contract objectives.
  • Employee and Customer Relations: Foster positive relationships with employees and customers to ensure the workshop operation meets financial and cultural objectives.
  • Staff Management: Manage both direct and indirect staff, monitoring performance and ensuring effective leadership.
  • Financial Management: Manage budgeted site hours, ensure daily invoicing, and maintain accurate records.
Purpose and Essential Job Functions
  • Workshop Performance: Manage workshop P&L/KPIs, direct and indirect costs, productivity, and compliance objectives.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete daily paperwork, including invoicing, and escalate any issues to the Business Support Manager.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure adherence to legislative requirements, Group Health and Safety, and Safe Systems of Work within the workshop operation.
  • Recruitment and Planning: Recruit workshop team members, including workshop supervisors, technicians, and administration staff.
  • Resource Planning: Undertake departmental/resource planning and delivery against these plans.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide operational information, maintain departmental systems/reports, and communicate effectively across functions.
  • Disciplinary and Grievance Matters: Deal with disciplinary/grievance matters in line with Company procedures.
  • Resource Management: Plan and manage resources in-line with set budgets, considering priorities of the customer and workshop operations.
  • Communication and Relationship Building: Build rapport, develop trust, and respect from internal and external customers.
  • Operational Reporting: Provide daily/weekly operational reports and status updates, reviewing as required.
  • Issue Resolution: Ensure timely investigation and resolution of operational and Health and Safety issues.
  • Leadership and Development: Manage through others, setting targets, measuring performance, providing feedback, and coaching as required.
  • Staff Motivation and Development: Motivate and develop staff through controlled delegation, achieving team goals, and career progression.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes/methods and operating practices within the department.
  • Internal Supplier Promotion: Maximize the use of internal suppliers, promoting their use with staff, operators, and external customers.
Basic Qualifications

Education:

  • A formal qualification in the repair and servicing of road vehicles.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in-depth experience of operational procedures and standards.
  • Experience of process review and implementation.
  • Experience of people management and leadership within a professional business environment.
  • Understanding of operational KPIs and the implications of quality and VOSA's 'Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.'
  • Working knowledge of disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Practical understanding of using information technology and systems.
  • Experience of managing Health and Safety.
  • Experience of managing Key Performance Indicators and finances.
  • Experience of establishing and building positive and effective customer relationships.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Able to build rapport and develop trust to gain respect from customers and all areas of the business.
  • Can balance and forward plan day-to-day thinking, assessing commercial implications of plans and actions taken.
  • Effective time planner, balancing workloads and working to set deadlines.
  • Demonstrates commercial awareness and understands the contractual operating environment.
  • Operates fluently with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates sound planning and control skills to achieve KPIs and develop the operation.
  • Reports effectively at operational status review meetings.
