In this capacity, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team comprising Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and Social Work professionals to deliver comprehensive care and treatment for up to 10 clients in individual living spaces.

Your primary responsibilities will encompass managing complex cases, developing tailored care plans, and providing guidance on evidence-based treatment methodologies.

As part of the Medical Directorate, you will offer expertise on psychiatric and medical matters within the unit, ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Act, Clinical Policies, and Clinical Standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Psychiatric Consultant include:

  • Collaborating with care coordinators, commissioners, families, and other agencies to ensure holistic care.
  • Contributing to the development and review of Directorate policies and procedures in alignment with statutory requirements.
  • Implementing the Mental Health Act and liaising with relevant authorities as necessary.
  • Engaging in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency partnerships.
  • Performing administrative duties related to patient care, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and timely discharge summaries.
  • Maintaining professional registration with the General Medical Council and adhering to established codes of conduct.
  • Upholding Section 12(2) and approved clinician status.

The hospital operates a two-tier on-call system, with the first tier managed by associate specialists and agency personnel. The post holder will participate in the second tier of hospital on-call duties as the designated Responsible Clinician, providing coverage for colleagues during their absences.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • MRCPsych or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Capability to assume full and independent responsibility for patient care.
  • Section 12(2) approval to practice in England and Approved Clinician status.
  • Experience in General Adult settings and familiarity with multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Background in acute inpatient or community settings, with expertise in risk assessment and management.
