Position: Chemistry Research Scientist

Company Overview:
Our client specializes in the design and manufacture of advanced Nickel Zinc batteries, particularly for marine applications. Over the past few years, they have significantly expanded their production capabilities and workforce.

Role Overview:
This position is ideal for recent graduates eager to embark on a career in Chemistry. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the planning and execution of research experiments.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct research experiments and assist in various factory operations, including quality assurance and safety protocols related to chemical handling.
2. Participate in the scaling and optimization of Nickel Zinc technology, facilitating a seamless transition to field trials.
3. Support research and development trials for new products through battery cycling, electrochemical assessments, and product analysis.
4. Analyze production issues through data evaluation and disassembly of products.
5. Provide consistent updates on project progress to the line manager.
6. Conduct risk assessments and COSHH evaluations.
7. Collaborate with the R&D Electrochemist to perform research, analyze results, and suggest design enhancements to meet performance objectives.
8. Adhere to a structured schedule for testing preparation, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
9. Contribute to the creation of project documentation, including research reports, technical analyses, and presentations for the R&D manager and New Technologies team.
10. Formulate experimental hypotheses and carry out tests independently or as part of a team.
11. Compile and present data to the R&D Manager in accordance with established timelines.
12. Attend occasional meetings with international teams as necessary.

Administrative Duties:
- Maintain and update laboratory procedures and logs.
- Conduct risk assessments and manage laboratory facilities and inventory.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of hazardous materials.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. While prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or roles will be advantageous.

Essential Skills:
- Strong understanding of chemical formulation, testing, and development.
- A safety-conscious mindset with familiarity in COSHH regulations.
- A proactive, detail-oriented individual with a collaborative spirit.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Desirable Skills:
- Experience in planning and executing R&D projects.
- Knowledge of new product development processes.
- Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, R, Python).
- Experience with electrochemical methodologies.

Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Successful completion of a BPSS criminal background check.
