About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council as a Childcare Business Development Officer. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving growth and innovation in the childcare sector, working closely with stakeholders to develop and implement business strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Childcare Market Development: Develop and implement strategies to grow the childcare market, identifying opportunities for expansion and improvement.
  • Welsh Language Support: Provide support and guidance to childcare providers on Welsh language initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including childcare providers, parents, and other external partners.
  • Service Development: Work with childcare providers to develop and improve services, ensuring they meet the needs of children and families.
  • Childminder Recruitment: Support the recruitment and retention of childminders, providing guidance and resources to help them establish and grow their businesses.
  • Business Support: Provide business support to childcare providers, including advice on finance, marketing, and operations.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs to support the development of childcare professionals, including childminders and nursery staff.
  • Workforce Development: Work with childcare providers to develop and implement workforce development plans, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality services.
  • Grant Administration: Manage grant applications and awards, ensuring that childcare providers have access to the resources they need to deliver high-quality services.
  • Public Engagement: Engage with the public, including parents and children, to promote the work of the council and the childcare sector.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve the effectiveness of childcare services, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the childcare sector: The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the childcare sector, including regulations, market trends, and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of the Welsh in Education Strategic Plan: The candidate will have knowledge of the Welsh in Education Strategic Plan and the ability to support Welsh language initiatives.
  • Experience in business support: The successful candidate will have experience in business support, particularly within the childcare or education sectors.
  • Ability to coordinate training programs: The candidate will have the ability to coordinate training programs and support workforce development.
  • Excellent communication skills: The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in grant management: The candidate will have experience in grant management and knowledge of external funding opportunities.
  • Excellent IT skills: The successful candidate will have excellent IT skills, with experience of data analysis and providing management information.
  • Ability to work effectively with partners: The candidate will have the ability to work effectively and in co-operation with a wide range of internal and external partners.
  • Ability to work at pace: The successful candidate will have the ability to work at pace and switch between tasks whilst maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to drive innovation: The candidate will have the ability to drive and have access to their own vehicle.
