Specialty Registrar - Otolaryngology

An exceptional opportunity awaits for a Specialty Registrar Doctor within the Otolaryngology department. This role is designed to enhance your skills and knowledge in the ENT specialty.

The Otolaryngology service is expanding, and this position will involve responsibilities at multiple facilities, enhancing our outpatient and inpatient capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

The role is for a full-time (resident) Specialty Registrar in Otolaryngology, equivalent to ST3-6, aimed at developing competencies at the ST3-6 level.

You will collaborate with the ENT team to ensure a high standard of patient care. Your duties will include working alongside Consultants, Associate Specialists, and other medical professionals to deliver both elective and emergency services, in alignment with the trust's mission and values. A level of autonomy in emergency assessments, decision-making, and basic surgical procedures is anticipated. Over time, your role may transition towards independent practice.

Comprehensive support will be provided for those pursuing CESR applications, provided they meet the necessary criteria.

The department serves a broad geographical area, with various sub-specialties represented, and maintains strong ties with the local medical school.

Job Responsibilities

Core Duties:

  • Deliver outpatient services.
  • Provide high-quality patient care through peri-operative visits and ward rounds.
  • Participate in the emergency ENT on-call service.
  • Engage in the clinical management of patients.
  • Contribute to surgical procedures.
  • Involve in clinical audits and apply evidence-based practices as appropriate.
  • Ensure effective handover of patient care.
  • Complete discharge summaries for all admissions in anticipation of discharge.
  • Contribute to service development in areas of expertise.
  • Actively engage in continuing medical education.
  • Participate in personal appraisal and job planning as part of revalidation.

You will be part of a 1 in 7 on-call rota, providing SpR level coverage and supporting emergency cases and ward patients during working hours. Additionally, you will assist in the training and supervision of junior doctors and participate in departmental meetings, research, and audits.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • MRCS qualification.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Completion of core surgical training or equivalent.
  • Experience in managing ENT conditions.

Motivation:

  • Demonstrated motivation for further training in ENT.
