Trust Clinical Fellow ST3+ in Ophthalmology - Vitreo-retinal

Applications are invited for the above post which offers advanced specialist training in Vitreo-retinal to be based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The post is to commence as soon as possible for a fixed-term period of one year. The salary will be on the scale for specialist registrars (MN37) on an incremental point according to previous experience.

The Vitreo-retinal service at Leicester Royal Infirmary is led by 3 consultants (Mr R Chaudhuri, Mr S Banerjee, and Mr A Mokashi). It serves a population of over one million people and attracts both secondary and tertiary referrals from Leicestershire and surrounding counties. The fellowship will provide extensive experience in Vitreo-retinal.

The post is suitable for applicants wishing to improve their knowledge and skills in Vitreo-retinal management. Applicants should be at Registrar or equivalent level and nearing the end of training. Applicants need not be in possession of CCT to be eligible, though must have FRCOphth/MRCOphth or equivalent.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESULT AREAS

To provide Ophthalmology services at the University Hospitals of Leicester. A specialty interest in Vitreo-Retinal is required. To provide Ophthalmology services by way of Outpatient clinics and theatre lists at the University Hospitals of Leicester. To work flexibly and cooperatively with the other Ophthalmologists to maximise the utilisation of theatre lists and outpatient clinics. To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance 'Duties of a Doctor' are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported. To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place. To actively participate in audit. To work with the CBU management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future. To provide continuing care of patients and be responsible for the proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice. To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the Division and Clinical Business Unit. To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trust's 'Critical Incident Policy', are reported in a timely manner. To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning process. To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training.

Training and Qualifications

Essential

Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview.

Higher academic qualification (fellowship/s within the subspecialty)

Adequate training in Ophthalmology Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems Demonstrates clear, logical thinking / analytical approach. Emergency eye casualty experience Extensive experience in Vitreo-Retinal

Evidence of a special interest in Vitreo-Retinal and expertise that complements those of other doctors in the Department Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest.
