Simpson Booth Limited is seeking a highly skilled Marine Sustainability Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Strategy and Energy Transition group, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering our organization's strategy and selected work programmes, particularly in the area of greenhouse gas reduction.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in the marine sector, with experience in offshore energy or construction. They will be aware of the evolving regulatory landscape and international legislative requirements, and have the ability to work with data to extract relevant insights.

The ideal candidate will be a champion for the reduction of carbon emissions and related challenges from the industry, with confidence in engaging at a senior level to liaise with member companies and drive forward a programme of improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Strategy and Energy Transition to support the organization's strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet IMO / regulators' targets.
  • Support the Greenhouse Gas Committee's agenda, objectives, and internal processes, including technology monitoring, alternative fuels, electrification, and vessel and crew efficiency best practice development.
  • Monitor regulatory developments that affect members, briefing the Director of Strategy and Energy Transition and the organization as appropriate.
  • Interpret and analyze internal and external industry data to support the Greenhouse Gas Committee and the organization's activities.
  • Support other Technical Committees as required.
  • Provide specific support to members on decarbonization.
  • Attend and contribute to committee(s) and workgroups, including preparing meeting minutes and following up on actions.
  • Support the collection of member insights to identify opportunities and facilitate the development of guidelines.
  • Assist in the drafting of guidance documents and Information Notes.
  • Assist with preparing key presentations and training for meetings.
  • Assist with briefings for senior management.
  • Work with the MSG team to maintain up-to-date committee member information.
  • Work with the communication team to develop engaging material, ensuring the effective outreach of the organization's work within the industry.
  • Travel as required (including internationally) to represent the organization at appropriate meetings and events.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in the marine sector or offshore energy or offshore construction.
  • Awareness of the evolving regulatory landscape and international legislative requirements.
  • Ability to work with data and extract relevant insights from industry sources.
  • A champion for the reduction of carbon emissions and related challenges from the industry.
  • Confidence in engaging at a senior level to liaise with member companies and drive forward a programme of improvement.
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to work with groups of varying expertise and seniority.
  • Self-starting and creative.
  • Passion and drive to lead continual improvement and implement strategic plans.
  • Strong personal skills in representing and promoting the work of the organization.
  • Good organizational and coordination skills with the ability to prioritize and work to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work well in a team environment.
  • Masters degree level graduate in a relevant discipline, such as environmental or marine engineering.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation.
