Job Overview:

Our client, a highly regarded solicitors' firm in Colchester, is seeking a dedicated and experienced 2nd Line Support Engineer to provide comprehensive IT support and guidance. This is a critical, onsite role within a busy legal environment where efficiency, reliability, and security are paramount.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Day-to-Day IT Support: Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support to users across the business, troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues within the firm.
  2. Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee the ongoing health, maintenance, and administration of the firm's IT infrastructure, ensuring uptime, reliability, and efficiency.
  3. System Upgrades & Projects: Lead and participate in IT projects, including software updates, hardware installations, and systems migrations.
  4. Vendor Management: Liaise with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring smooth delivery of IT services and managing hardware/software purchases.
  5. Compliance: Ensure that all IT processes and systems comply with relevant data protection regulations (such as GDPR) and legal sector requirements.

Requirements:

  1. Technical Proficiency: Strong experience in supporting Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10, Active Directory, Exchange, and network troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, etc.).
  2. Experience in a Legal Environment (preferred): Familiarity with legal-specific applications such as case management systems, document management solutions, and time recording software would be advantageous.
  3. Project Management: Experience leading IT projects, from system upgrades to the deployment of new technologies.
  4. Security Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in cybersecurity, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, and remote access security.
  5. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with legal professionals, IT staff, and external providers.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred).
  2. Professional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support roles, with at least 2 years in a senior capacity.
