Senior Engineer in Cryogenic Magnet Control

Tokamak Energy is a pioneering global enterprise in the commercial fusion energy sector, dedicated to advancing the era of High Temperature Superconductors (HTS). We are currently in search of a skilled professional to join our team as a Technical Engineer for Instrumentation and Data Acquisition within our Magnet Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation of instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems for the supervision and management of HTS magnets in cryogenic settings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to devise testing facilities for prototype magnets, ensuring adherence to project specifications.
  • Assume responsibility for HTS magnet and cryostat control systems, from initial design through to commissioning and transfer to end users.
  • Develop modeling, data acquisition, and analytical software as required.
  • Design electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and printed circuit boards (PCBs) as necessary.
  • Define software requirements and supervise the development and testing of software by external vendors.
  • Engage with external partners to develop, test, or acquire measurement electronics and sensors.
  • Lead safety assessments and preparations for control systems.
  • Analyze test outcomes and compile technical documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and clients as needed.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Essential Qualifications

  • Practical experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics.
  • Proven experience in developing intricate data acquisition and control software/hardware.
  • Expertise in designing electrical schematics and PCBs.
  • Experience in cryogenics, superconducting magnets, or high magnetic field conditions.
  • Background in training or mentoring junior engineers or technicians.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments PXI, cRIO, or other real-time systems is advantageous.
  • Experience with FPGAs or embedded systems operating on Linux is preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ or LabVIEW.
  • Experience with optical instrumentation is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
