About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Software Engineering to join our team at Haystack. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the technical strategy and direction of our software engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of senior software engineers and engineering managers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Develop and implement technical strategies and roadmaps to drive business growth and innovation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective communication.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, and develop contingency plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and make recommendations for adoption and integration.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including product managers, delivery teams, and senior leadership.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and engineering managers.
  • Contribute to the development of our company's technical vision and strategy.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a senior software engineer or engineering leader in a similar role.
  • Strong technical expertise in software engineering, including design patterns, architecture, and development methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to think strategically and make informed decisions that align with business objectives.
  • Experience with cloud engineering, DevOps, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and Scrum.
  • Experience with technical debt management and technical quality assurance.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience leading large-scale software engineering projects or programs.
  • Knowledge of software approaches such as Domain-Driven Design.
  • Previous experience as a technical community leader or open-source contributor.
  • Experience with presentation delivery at internal and external events.
  • Advanced experience with cloud engineering and DevOps.
