Position Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Perfusionist to join the Clinical Perfusion Department at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.
The ideal candidate will possess full UK registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion and have a minimum of three years of post-qualification experience or demonstrate equivalent exposure.
There may be some flexibility regarding the start and end dates of this fixed-term role. Interested candidates are encouraged to reach out to the department for further discussion.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Perfusionist will:
- Effectively manage and oversee the temporary replacement of a patient's cardiopulmonary function during cardiac surgeries and other medical interventions.
- Operate auxiliary equipment to ensure patient safety and optimize clinical outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and management of the Clinical Perfusion Department, performing duties with a high level of clinical expertise.
- Participate in the on-call and late duty schedules as required.

Job Responsibilities
- Select appropriate equipment and consumables for procedures.
- Prepare equipment for cardiopulmonary bypass in both routine and emergency situations.
- Operate the heart-lung machine and related equipment to maintain patients' clinical conditions within physiological limits.
- Conduct blood gas analyses and interpret results.
- Supervise and mentor trainee perfusionists, supporting their development.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and departmental protocols.
