As a Youth Housing Support Specialist, you'll play a vital role in guiding young residents towards independence and secure housing. Your days will be filled with hands-on support, administrative tasks, and collaboration with external services to ensure the well-being of our residents.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide regular welfare checks and support tailored to individual resident needs, ensuring their safety and adherence to support plans.
- Conduct accommodation inspections to identify necessary repairs or potential safety hazards, taking prompt action to address any concerns.
- Implement safeguarding measures to protect residents from harm, abuse, or neglect, demonstrating a commitment to their well-being.
- Offer practical assistance with benefit applications and coordinate engaging group or one-on-one activities to foster personal growth.
- Guide residents in securing a place on the housing register or finding suitable rental properties, empowering them to achieve long-term stability.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with residents, providing consistent emotional support and guidance as they navigate challenges.
Essential Skills and Qualities
- Proven experience working with teenagers aged 16-17 years old.
- Demonstrated ability to manage challenging behaviors effectively and compassionately.
- Knowledge or experience of safeguarding principles and trauma-informed care practices.
- Empathy, excellent listening skills, a non-judgmental attitude, and the ability to recognize and respond to potential issues.
- Strong autonomy and conflict resolution skills to navigate complex situations and prevent escalation.
