Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Job Type: Full-Time

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to work at a leading institution in York, North Yorkshire. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide 1:1 support to students with special educational needs, helping them to overcome barriers and achieve their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Work closely with lecturers and course leaders to implement personalized learning plans that meet the specific needs of each student.
  • Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them to build confidence and resilience in a higher education setting.
  • Adhere to college safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

Requirements:

  • A degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field is essential.
  • Proven experience supporting students with SEN, particularly in a higher education setting, is highly desirable.
  • A solid understanding of various SEN conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help overcome students' barriers.
  • Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please note that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
