Job Responsibilities

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing our society, and our team is tasked with determining the Government's response to these changes. Our mission is to leverage AI for the public good, enhancing lives and benefiting the economy. By exploring AI's capabilities and the UK's talent pool, we aim to develop a competitive AI sector on a global scale while ensuring safe deployment across various sectors.

This role is vital to the directorate's success in fulfilling this mission. You will oversee essential functions that facilitate the smooth operation of the directorate, collaborating proactively across teams and effectively managing a central team of six.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a corporate team, including direct management of a Business Manager, Private Secretary, and oversight of a Diary Manager and two Executive Assistants.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of the director's private office, delivering high-quality support to enable effective leadership.
  • Continuously enhance business structures and processes to support effective corporate management between the Directorate and DSIT's corporate functions, focusing on Finance and HR.
  • Implement governance and decision-making processes for corporate and personnel matters with senior leaders, including managing regular Senior Leadership Team meetings.
  • Prioritize current corporate initiatives, such as monitoring resource activities and assessing security clearance requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, including the Director General’s Office and corporate business partners.
  • Analyze corporate data on workforce and budgets, producing clear visualizations and presenting findings to senior leadership as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

We welcome candidates with:

  • A proven history in business management or a similar role, successfully collaborating with various policy leads.
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex issues clearly.
  • Experience in advising and briefing senior leaders.
  • Comfort with data analysis, particularly in finance and resource management.
  • Experience in finance and budget management, including business planning and spending reviews.
  • Proficiency in Excel.

It would be advantageous to have:

  • Experience in line management, providing both task-oriented and pastoral support.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft PowerBi or similar business intelligence tools.
